2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X The small, military-style Jeep once known as the TJ now goes by the name of Wrangler. And, for the first time, a four-door model is available. Called the Unlimited, it is 52.1 cm longer overall, with 52.2 cm more in the wheelbase. The Wrangler is offered in X, Sahara and Rubicon trims. Though all versions are off-road oriented, the Rubicon is the best of the trio thanks to such characteristics as locking front and rear differentials and a more rugged rear differential. Interior and cargo …

Engine and transmission The 3.8-litre V6 engine develops 202 horsepower and 237 pounds of torque. Acceleration and pickup are a bit slow because of the gearing of the transmission and the rear differential that favour torque for off-road efficiency over power for quick acceleration. On the other hand, generous torque promotes smooth driving by eliminating unnecessary downshifting. The engine is noisy in average acceleration and above. The six-speed manual transmission is easy to shift. Because of the close gearing, sixth gear is appreciated as it lowers engine revolution at highway speeds. The transfer case, too, is easy to use. On the road Despite its two solid axles, the Wrangler provides a smooth ride with a touch of well-controlled firmness. Obviously, there is some bouncing on certain types of bumps, but without harsh reactions. The level of comfort is a pleasant surprise from a vehicle capable of affronting the severest of off-road conditions. Road holding is correct for this type of vehicle.
